Back in the day, some born and bred Upstaters (NY) anointed transplants from NYC, Cidiots. It caught on. I think you can figure out the etymology of that one. Then along came Mat Zucker, a creative entrepreneurial transplant from NYC and spun that naughty word on its head. Embracing it. He started a podcast and blog about moving to the Hudson Valley and learning country ways. This week Mat interviews me and we talk about country house colors, how to choose them, the origin of red barns and lots more. What an honor to return to Fine Home Building a year later for my 2nd article about choosing paint color. This time it’s How to Choose Exterior Paint Colors for a Home.

    Architectural Digest now curates an on-line site for DIYers. In May 2022 they tapped Amy Krane Color to unravel how a color consultant can help with paint color choices.

It’s hard to imagine any print or online magazine that is more highly respected as the go-to for building advice than Fine Home Building Magazine. Regarded as the gold standard by professionals and home owners alike, it was an honor to be asked to write the primer on how to choose paint colors. On this, the 40th anniversary of the magazine, my article on How to Choose Colors graced 6 pages in the July 2021 Issue.

At the dawn of my career I was solo featured in an article in Houzz about being a color consultant. Today, many, many consultations later, they’ve included me twice in another piece about when it’s time to hire one.

It was a pleasure to be included in the March/April issue of the Berkshires based magazine Up Country in the article “Take Your Home from Drab to Fab”.

In June 2020, Apartment Therapy asked Amy to weigh in on the redesign of a kitchen, using Kilz and Joanna Gaines’ paint line, Magnolia paints. Here’s one of the articles.

Apartment Therapy turned to Amy to get the skinny on the color greige. She’s often asked for her opinion by shelter magazines.

Rural Intelligence came knocking in March 2019 to ask if they could feature Amy’s story in their monthly column called Design Diary. RI was launched by a former editor and reporter of The New York Times and New York magazine. It’s the only website of its kind in Berkshire, Columbia, northern Dutchess and northern Litchfield counties and is the place where full-time residents and weekenders can share their passion for the sophisticated rural life.
