Back in the day, some born and bred Upstaters (NY) anointed transplants from NYC, cidiots. It caught on. I think you can figure out the etymology of that one. Then along came Mat Zucker, a creative entrepreneurial transplant from NYC and spun that naughty word on its head. Embracing it. He started a podcast and blog about moving to the Hudson Valley and learning country ways. It’s hard to imagine any print or online magazine that is more highly respected as the go-to for building advice than Fine Home Building Magazine. Regarded as the gold standard by professionals and home owners alike, it was an honor to be asked to write the primer on how to choose paint colors. On this, the 40th anniversary of the magazine, my article on How to Choose Colors graced 6 pages in the July 2021 Issue.

Rural Intelligence came knocking in March 2019 to ask if they could feature Amy’s story in their monthly column called Design Diary. RI was launched by a former editor and reporter of The New York Times and New York magazine. It’s the only website of its kind in Berkshire, Columbia, northern Dutchess and northern Litchfield counties and is the place where full-time residents and weekenders can share their passion for the sophisticated rural life.
